20-foot Containerized BESS Layered Fire Protection Reference Design
Reference Solution

Final design must be re-engineered for cell chemistry, capacity, enclosure layout, local codes and project testing.

Scenario assumptions

A 20-foot containerized lithium battery energy storage system with multiple battery racks, electrical equipment, ventilation and a site control layer. This reference architecture is for design discussion and does not describe a specific customer deployment.

Risk path

Cell abnormality may develop into off-gas, heat release, module propagation, smoke and enclosure-level escalation. The design therefore uses multiple decision and intervention layers.

1Multi-parameter early warning
2PACK-level localized intervention
3Pump-unit or stored-pressure zone suppression
4Cooling and reignition control
5BMS, alarm and ventilation linkage

Design objectives

  • Identify abnormal conditions before enclosure-level escalation where the selected detectors permit.
  • Shorten the suppression delivery path near the affected pack.
  • Coordinate local and zone-level suppression without conflicting with ventilation or electrical isolation logic.
  • Support alarm, event feedback and remote intervention.

Project inputs required

Cell chemistry, rack and PACK geometry, rated energy, ventilation strategy, ambient range, detection philosophy, local fire code, interface list and representative project testing.

Engineering boundary: The final design must be recalculated and validated for the actual cell chemistry, capacity, enclosure layout, local regulations and project tests.

Prepare a project-specific configuration
